Arabica and robusta beans

Robusta? Arabica? What indecision! Don't worry, we explain their differences in detail so that you can choose the coffee that best suits your tastes.

Why are there different types of coffee?

There are more than 70 different species of coffee plants with a wide variety of aromas and flavours, but their cultivation is mainly focused on four or five of them.

The most representative, and at the same time, the ones with the highest quality are two: Coffea arabica (arabica coffee) and Coffea canéfora (robusta coffee).

These two plant species produce different seeds, different beans and therefore different coffee. These varieties can be seen in differences in taste, smell and texture.

Arabica coffee cultivation accounts for 55 - 60% of all world coffee production and Robusta coffee for 40 - 45% and 1 - 2 % of other coffee varieties.

These percentages tend to vary slightly each year due to weather conditions in the production areas, but arabica coffee tends to be the majority crop.

Which one are you going to try?
